Outpost Summer Camps
Outpost Summer Camps provides valuable opportunities for children to connect with each other face to face and away from screens. Founded in 2001, the camp serves over 1,500 children every summer completely outdoors and unplugged. The Outpost experience has three pillars that parents have loved for 18 summers: nature, fun, and exceptional staff! Nature is the vehicle through which children get to play collaboratively and creatively. Fun is experienced on a surface level through exciting games and on a deeper level through a sense of belonging and community. Exceptional staff lead small, consistent groups with a focus on friendships, special traditions, and an inclusive culture. Door-to-door transportation is included in the program fee and available to most families. Outpost serves children ages 3 to 14, and according to Dr. Kelly Jones, the camp’s owner and director: “Each of our camps has exciting, age-appropriate activities, and all share in the philosophy of creative, spontaneous adventures facilitated by the counselors and campers.” The three-week sessions and small, consistent groups are what make Outpost so impactful. Dr. Kelly explained, “By staying longer at camp, children of all temperaments have enough time to learn names, get comfortable with routines, and make and keep new friends.” The camps also stand out with their commitment to safety. Outpost Summer Camps has been continuously accredited by the American Camp Association since inception and operates under permit from the County of San Diego as an Organized Camp. Dr. Kelly, a clinical psychologist, and her husband Stuart bring years of child development experience to Outpost. Additionally, the duo hires, trains, and retains their director team from their best counselors, who have invested 10 to 15 years at the camps and are specialized in their programs.
