Filling in the Gaps

Brain Balance Addresses Challenges with a Drug-Free, Integrative Approach

No single factor can point to a child’s success or, for that matter, their struggle. Raising children requires a holistic approach. So when kids are struggling – behaviorally, socially, academically – figuring out the underlying causes and pairing that with the right support can be a real challenge. Brain Balance of San Diego offers a drug-free, personalized, integrative approach to help children reach their full potential.

“Gaps and holes in development result in gaps and holes in behavior, academics, socialization, and confidence,” owner Jon Pak explained. Using extensive brain research, Brain Balance creates individualized plans to strengthen the brain’s weaker areas, including sensory engagement, core muscle strength and coordination, eye tracking, auditory processing, academic guidance, and nutritional guidance. “Extensive scientific research demonstrates that the brain is malleable,” Jon said. “Brain Balance has applied this research to develop a program that focuses on improving the foundation of development and brain connectivity rather than masking or coping with symptoms.” Those symptoms can range from lack of focus and meltdowns to lack of confidence and social struggles. They work with children with or without a diagnosis from pre-K to 12th grade who struggle behaviorally, socially, and academically. This includes but is not limited to lack of focus, impulsiveness, tantrums, learning challenges, lack of confidence, and challenging family/social relationships as well as with children diagnosed with ADHD, dyslexia, processing disorders, Asperger syndrome, high functioning autism (now considered a part of Autism Spectrum Disorder), and others.

Jon was inspired to open Brain Balance of San Diego from his own experience. As a father of a child with special needs, Jon witnessed his son’s friends being treated with medication and struggling with the side effects without improvement. Jon opened the doors of Brain Balance to help families who did not know of options other than medication. The program is currently in 31 states and has served over 30,000 children. “Many of our center owners are parents of the children we’ve helped,” Jon shared. “They have personally experienced how Brain Balance has helped their children and wanted to provide that same opportunity to other parents.”

Through a personalized combination of in-center sessions, at-home activities, and a nutrition program, the Brain Balance program addresses the individual gaps for each child to improve focus, behavior, social skills, sensory processing, and academics. The true testament to its success comes from the parents. Making friends, focusing in class, and improving self-esteem are only a few of the many successes that Brain Balance of San Diego hopes to share with other struggling children and their family. Jon acknowledged, “If you and your child are struggling and nothing has worked for you, there’s hope.”
