The Rancho Bernardo Community Council (RBCC) recently recognized talented local artists in two events. The 2nd Annual Community Flag Contest invited local residents to design flags representing the Rancho Bernardo community. The contest was established last year by former RBCC Student Representative Leily Rezvani. Winning entries were displayed at local schools and at the RBCC’s RB Alive booth, as well as being showcased during the Independence Day parade. This year’s winners were James Thomsen in the preschool category, Benjamin Galarza-Boquin in the elementary school category, and Marcie Wessels in the adult category.
The 9th Annual Chalk It Up event hosted 82 participants showing off their outdoor creativity at Sharp Rees-Stealy’s Rancho Bernardo Campus. “All who attended had a wonderful time,” shared RBCC President Robin Kaufman. “We had some who said they have come for several years and some who said this was their first time.”
Prizes were awarded for first, second, and third place in age group categories, and this year’s talented participant pool resulted in a number of ties. Preschool winners were Charles Wilson, Simrat, Kaur, and Mia Vargas. Elementary winners were Hazel Kingery, Isabela Baca, Ganga Menon, Eavan Cash, Nina Guran, and Quinn Wetergard. Middle school winners were Jessie Lin, Natalie Baza, and Preena Maruthavelu.
High school winners were Riley Trecker, Kaylee Newbanks, and Pamela Luna. Adult winners were Lori Baca, Anna Lakshmi, Rodrigo Baca, Jill Trecker, and Joy Scape. Senior winner was Sandy Moll, and Lori Baca was named overall winner.
