Local Girls Help Homeless Women
The Rancho Bernardo Community Council recently recognized Girl Scout Troop 8800 for their Silver Award project supporting Rachel’s Women’s Shelter. The shelter provides emergency, short-term, and mid-term housing for homeless women in San Diego. Troop 8800’s project included fundraising to supply care packages for women staying at the shelter. They explored a variety of fundraising options, including online sales, collecting recyclables, and reaching out to local businesses for donations. They also collected donations for food to serve meals at the shelter – they’ve served three meals and plan to do more in December.
Troop 8800 is a group of eighth-grade Cadettes: Alyssa Peccatiello, Elise Tokushige, Isabella Seat, Mackenzie Wilson, Jenny Sanderbeck, Taylor Hubbard, and Carly Newbanks. Five of the girls have been in the troop since kindergarten.
