Rancho Bernardo Community Park is home to a new Little Free Library thanks to the work of local Girl Scout Sierra Riedel. The Little Free Library is next to the Ed Brown Center for Active Adults, and the entire community is welcome to add new books or take books left by other visitors.

Inspired by another Little Free Library in her neighborhood, Sierra designed the book nook, gained approval from the Rancho Bernardo Recreation Council, and oversaw installation as part of her Girl Scout Silver Award Project. “The city was working on a solar panel parking cover which delayed the installation, then we ran into an irrigation pipe when digging at the first location,” Sierra said. “It was frustrating to have it completed but not installed, but I’m glad to see it finally up and being used.  We saw a man and a boy checking it out and have noticed books being added and removed, so people are using it, which makes me happy!”

Sierra attends Classical Academy and is a member of Girl Scout Troop 8381.
