Space Race

Cub Scout Pack 681 recently held its biennial space derby, a racing event similar to the pinewood derby car race, at San Rafael Church in Rancho Bernardo. In the space derby, Cub Scouts put together and race miniature balsa wood rockets that are propelled by a rubber band and propeller. Pack 681 is part of the Black Mountain District of the San Diego-Imperial Council of the Boy Scouts of America, serving boys from first to fifth grade in the Rancho Bernardo area. Cub Scout activities and experiences like space derby are aimed at developing character, self-reliance, mental and physical abilities, citizenship, and sense of community.
