Top Honors & Tough Challenges

student_demange2Finishing her seventh grade year at The Academy at Meadowbrook Middle School, Isabelle Demange of Sabre Springs focuses her time on school, friends, and dance.

At The Academy, Isabelle explained that her favorite subject is language arts because she enjoys reading and writing. Beyond the academics, she shared, “I love the Meadowbrook Academy because I see my friends every day, and I really like the teachers.”

Her friends and teachers play a big role in her love for dance as well. “One of the most rewarding parts of competitive dance is that we have just as much fun when we aren’t dancing. I love just hanging out with my friends on the team,” Isabelle said. “I love coming off the stage and having them there to support me.” For inspiration, Isabelle looks to her dance teachers “because they work hard and push me to be my best,” she acknowledged.

Isabelle has been dancing competitively for five years. As a young child, she began with ballet and tap, but in the second grade she transitioned to competitive dance. “My mom signed me up for more dance classes, including jazz, musical theater, and lyrical,” she explained. “I began competing in third grade doing both group dances and a solo.” Isabelle has earned numerous awards in competition, including top spots in regional and national competitions. This year, one of her group dances was recognized with the Top Choreographer Award out of the 545 routines at the competition.

But the rewards are not without the challenges. Isabelle has had three broken bones and two overuse injuries this last season. “I had to dance at Nationals with a cast on my hand,” she shared. These physical challenges, though, have helped to define Isabelle’s future. “I would like to become an orthopedist,” she said. “I became interested in this specialty after I broke my hand last season.” 
