Prioritizing Success

Brian McLean Serves Clients and the Community with BDM Wealth Management

Brian McLean knows that every individual has different backgrounds, needs, and goals. With BDM Wealth Management, he celebrates those differences by getting to know each client and working out the best plan for their specific situation. “I have structured my practice around my belief that individuals are better served in the financial arena by an independent, hands-on advisor who truly understands the unique aspects of each individual client or family,” shared Brian. By using a fee-based model, he prioritizes his clients’ success.

He earned his BA from Loyola Chicago and completed his financial planning courses at San Diego State University. After working at a large financial planning firm, he decided to strike out on his own to build his boutique practice. He said, “Early on in my career I received a solid fundamental education in estate planning for high net worth individuals that has helped me with my overall philosophy of being a comprehensive advisor for all my clients.”

“I always try to operate in a mode as though I’m working with my own mother.” – Brian McLean

bdmThat philosophy leads Brian to treat clients like family – he cares about them as individuals and cares about ensuring their success. “I always try to operate in a mode as though I’m working with my own mother,” said Brian. “If a product or position would or would not be appropriate for my own mom, then it should or should not be presented to my own client.” He feels it’s important to be stable and accessible as an advisor, and brings up his family life as an example. As he explained, “I’m 46 years old, married 17 years, have two elementary school-aged sons, and I don’t plan on going anywhere anytime soon.”

He finds great personal satisfaction in helping new clients straighten out their situations. When a new client comes to him with a confusing portfolio, Brian is able to simplify their investments to reduce overall management fees and give them a better sense of where and how their funds are invested.
Brian also finds fulfillment in contributing to the broader community beyond his clientele. He is a past president and current board member of the Rancho Bernardo Community Foundation, as well as a current board member of Rancho Bernardo Senior Services.
