Corey Blanton and Christy Grider Team Up at Highland Ranch
Elementary School

For Corey Blanton and Christy Grider, volunteering together on the Highland Ranch Elementary School (HRES) PTA is rewarding and a lot of fun. “Corey was one of the first parents I met at HRES when our now third grade girls were in the same first grade class. We hit it off at back-to-school night and have been very good friends ever since,” revealed Christy. The two women are both involved at HRES as PTA board members, room moms for their children’s classes and the co-chairs for the Fall Festival. According to Corey and Christy, the Fall Festival, which is held each year in late October, recently transformed from a service event to a primary fundraiser for the PTA. “We added some carnival rides, food trucks and a professional carnival vendor for our booths and games. We hope in the coming years to make the Fall Festival a community-wide event that raises ample funds to support HRES,” explained Christy.

Corey and Christy feel incredibly lucky to work with a great group of parents and staff at HRES, including this year’s PTA president, Kristi Schneider. They are also thrilled to be helping the students have a positive and fun school experience. “The most rewarding part is seeing how much the kids appreciate what we do and how much they enjoy it; not just my kids, but all the kids. It means a lot to me to support and help the teachers, coaches and leaders that make such a big difference in my kids’ lives,” stated Corey, who taught at the elementary school level for seven years.

Corey is mom to four children, three of whom currently attend HRES, and one who is at Bernardo Heights Middle School. “Collectively, they are involved in Boy Scouts, Cub Scouts, Girl Scouts, Pop Warner football and cheer and karate,” related Corey. As a family, the Blantons love to head up to Disneyland whenever they can. And when she has a moment to herself, Corey enjoys reading, scrapbooking and going out with friends.

In addition to her volunteer commitments, Christy is on the faculty at the University of Phoenix. She has a diverse accounting and finance background and holds an MBA from the University of Phoenix. When she isn’t teaching online classes or volunteering at HRES, she enjoys cooking, reading, spending time with friends, camping and exploring the California coast with her husband and two daughters.
