Dr. Karen Rens, her husband of 14 years, Greg Hayes, and their two children, ages ten and seven, have lived in 4S Ranch since 2000. “We love the sense of the 4S Ranch community pride and support,” said Rens. “[It’s] a great community to raise our family and enjoy great friends. We like knowing our neighbors and seeing them in our local offices, around the community and at youth sporting events.”

A native San Diegan, Rens attended Patrick Henry High School where she played on the varsity tennis team for 3 years. After high school, she received her Bachelor of Science in Exercise Science at the University of Southern California and her Doctorate of Chiropractic from the Los Angeles College of Chiropractic. She also went on to get certified by the UCSD School of Medicine in MedX Spinal Rehabilitation, which qualifies her as one of the few chiropractors who are able to use state of the art MedX machines for patients with whiplash and other severe injuries.

In 2010, Rens was named a San Diego Health Care Champion Finalist by the San Diego Business Journal. The award seeks to recognize those San Diego health care providers who go above and beyond to make a significant impact on the quality of health care. “I was nominated for my commitment to my patient community and to the support and dedication to my office,” said Rens. “I was honored to have been chosen… as a finalist. I was more excited for the Chiropractic profession… It made me proud that the Chiropractic profession was recognized for our outstanding service that we provide to our patients and communities on a daily basis.” In 1996, Dr. Rens was recognized as “New Doctor of the Year,” by both the San Diego County Chiropractic Society and the California Chiropractic Association.

In her spare time, Rens enjoys working out, tennis, hiking and spending time with family and friends. She also volunteers weekly at the kids’ school and attends their sporting events on the weekends.

As for the future, Rens plans to continue providing an excellent quality of patient care as she has done over the past 16 years. “I have a fabulous team of doctors, staff and massage therapists who help me strive to be my best every day,” said Rens. “Each patient is treated as an individual with a treatment plan that meets my determined goals, but also considers the patient’s desire for treatment.”
